Lassa fever is a very dangerious virus which can easily claim human life, if proper treatment and precausion is not taken. It is caused by Lassa virus and can be traced back to 1969 in the town of Lassa, in Borneo state, Nigeria.
Countries prone to Lassa fever are Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Central African Republic.
Signs & Symptoms
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Stomach ache
- Constipation
- Dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing)
- Hepatitis
- Cough
- Chest pain
- Meningitis
Mostly rodents e.g mouse through their excretion (urine and feces)
Prevention
Keeping all filthy area around your homes clean. Food supplies as well as maintaining effective personal hygiene.
Treatment
Infected persons of Lassa fever should be admitted to isolation, body fluid and excreta must be properly disposed of. Serious treatment must be conducted on such person.
